Trail 4 of six · Walt Disney World · 7 finds

What Stood Here?

Stand in a current queue, show building or land and reconstruct the attraction that occupied the same footprint before it.

One URL, one search: what was there before Princess Fairytale Hall, Cosmic Rewind, Frozen Ever After.

Your guide

Trixie the Time Traveler, the guide for these trails

“The building may look new, but the footprint remembers. I’ll help you line up today’s landmark with yesterday’s ride.”

Trixie the Time Traveler, the guide written for this hunt. She also guides Trixie’s Time Adventures on the TrixiePlanner front page.

How this trail reads

A footprint outlasts the name on it. Each find here sets a current place beside the attraction that occupied the same ground, and the dates come from Disney's own guide-map sheets: the last sheet a name was printed on, and the first sheet without it. Where a closure happened before the map corpus begins, the house says so rather than filling the gap.

Your own record

A reader keeping track of what they have seen is collecting, and these pages support it. What they do not do is turn it into a score: there is no total set against another reader, no ranking of one find above another, no badge and no streak. The three difficulty words the original page carried on the Hidden Mickey finds — they graded the finds against each other — were removed for that reason, and a build that lets one back onto a page fails.

Marking a find is a convenience for a reader and not a record this house keeps. It is written into this browser's own storage on this device; it is never sent anywhere, it is never counted against another reader, and there is no badge, no streak and no leaderboard at the end of it. With scripts switched off there is no button, and nothing else on this page changes.

The seven finds

1 of 7 · Two tracks became one Hundred Acre Wood

Magic Kingdom · Fantasyland

Same building1971–1998Now: Winnie the Pooh

The clue

Stand outside The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and picture two separate ride tracks entering Mr. Toad's chaotic English world.

What you are looking at

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride occupied this building until 1998. Pooh opened in the same structure in 1999, then left a deed-transfer portrait inside as a handoff.

2 of 7 · The princesses moved into Snow White's dark ride

Magic Kingdom · Fantasyland

Same building1971–2012Now: Princess Fairytale Hall

The clue

At Princess Fairytale Hall, look past the current royal setting and map the entrance back to a far darker trip through the forest.

What you are looking at

Snow White's Scary Adventures ran here until 2012. The building reopened as Princess Fairytale Hall in 2013 while pieces of the ride moved into Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

3 of 7 · A submarine lagoon under New Fantasyland

Magic Kingdom · New Fantasyland

Former lagoon1971–1994Now: mine and mermaid

The clue

Between Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Under the Sea, imagine a vast lagoon filled with twelve Nautilus-style submarines.

What you are looking at

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea filled this part of Fantasyland until 1994. The lagoon survived for years before demolition cleared the way for the New Fantasyland expansion.

4 of 7 · Choose your future where astronauts train

EPCOT · World Discovery

Same site1983–1999Now: Mission: SPACE

The clue

Before entering Mission: SPACE, look at the pavilion footprint and imagine two enormous IMAX screens, a suspended ride system and a finale that let riders choose a future.

What you are looking at

Horizons stood on this site from 1983 to 1999. It was demolished, and Mission: SPACE opened here in 2003.

5 of 7 · A comic history of transport lived here

EPCOT · World Discovery

The clue

In the Wonders of Xandar pavilion, imagine theater vehicles breaking apart and moving through a primeval landscape of Audio-Animatronic dinosaurs.

What you are looking at

Universe of Energy occupied this pavilion from EPCOT's opening until 2017. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind reused the original building and added a vast new ride structure behind it.

Same flume1988–2014Now: Frozen Ever After

The clue

Ride Frozen Ever After and pay attention to the flume's backward section. The track was making that move decades before Elsa arrived.

What a find rests on

Who published it
Disney’s own page — disneyworld.disney.go.com, d23.com or disneyparksblog.com — or somebody else’s. 4 of the 7 finds rest on Disney’s own; 3 do not.
Standing
LEAD, on all 7. Opening the operator’s page for the place does not open it on the claim, so a find stays a lead until a page is opened on the claim itself. Nothing on these pages is settled by having been published.
Disney lists the place
7 finds reach a Field File — this house’s page for a thing Walt Disney World lists. That establishes the place. It establishes nothing about the find.
Disney printed the name
7 finds reach a dated guide-map printing run off Disney’s own paper, which is the strongest thing in this set.
This house wrote it down
0 finds reach a row in the Hidden Mickey workbook or the S.E.A. workbook, each row carrying its own owner and its own standing.
A name left the map
2 finds reach a succession pair: the last sheet a name was printed on, the first sheet without it, and the pool of names that began printing after the gap. The pool proposes and nothing more; a person rules.
Nothing at all
0 of 7 finds reach nothing this house holds. They say so on their own line rather than leaving a reader to assume more.

A printing run is Disney's own paper. Two kinds of sheet are read for it: one carries the operator's own digital text, the other was read by machine off folded paper. Both can attest that a name was printed on a dated sheet. Neither can anchor an absence, so a run states its own reading for its first and last sheet.
