Tivoli Gardens
DOCUMENTED INFLUENCE
Strong primary or authoritative evidence supports the connection.
Walt studied how a park could feel alive without feeling chaotic.
What Walt encountered
Gardens, nighttime lighting, music, food, cleanliness, courteous employees and an atmosphere that worked for adults as well as children.
What Disney built
What the record documents is Disneyland’s guest-environment philosophy as a whole — not a single copied attraction.
Where it reaches Walt Disney World
- Connection
- Broader Disney influence
No single pin at Walt Disney World can honestly be labelled “Tivoli became this.” The influence is better treated as an operating and placemaking philosophy carried into the later parks.
Pictures the house holds
Every picture below is held by this house. Each one says what it shows, why it belongs to this story, and which document and page it came from, so a reader can go and look at the sheet rather than take the caption's word for it.

A typed page of a Harrison Price Company market study. The page argues that the proposed entertainment centre should 'play a role in community life not unlike that of Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen', and names music and sound systems, night-lighting, colour and landscaping as the means.
Concept and Market Analysis for Proposed Hennepin Avenue Entertainment Center · PDF page 83; the page is numbered 5-3 in the document's own footer
Dated 1985-04. The record stores 1985-04-01; the day is padding, not a printed date, so it is not published. doc_date recorded for this document in F:\DEEPVAULT\_index\vault.sqlite (corpus 'buzzprice'). Not read off the page image itself.
Harrison Price Company study, held locally at F:\DEEPVAULT\buzzprice\pdfs\ and indexed in the house vault as corpus 'buzzprice', page 83. Reader can open the PDF at that page and read the paragraph.
This is the house's own documentary evidence that Tivoli Gardens functioned as a working professional benchmark for the kind of placemaking the story describes. It carries an explicit caveat: this 1985 study is NOT evidence of Walt's 1951 visit. It evidences the influence-as-philosophy reading the story already takes, nothing more.
CITE, DO NOT QUOTE FROM OCR. The stored OCR for this page is badly mangled -- on disk the sentence reads 'It will uke a .. I ... uae of .. ale and sound IYlteu'. The scan itself is cleanly legible, and reads: 'As such, it will play a role in community life not unlike that of Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen. It will make maximum use of music and sound systems, night-lighting, color, and landscaping.' Any quotation must be taken from the page image, not from the OCR text.

A concept rendering of Cinderella Castle, captioned in the document itself 'Cinderella's Castle - - - Gateway to Fantasyland'.
master planning for Walt Disney World · PDF page 11 (the book's printed page 16)
The record carries no date for this artifact, and none is assigned here.
'master planning for Walt Disney World', in the house archive as Master Planning WDW.pdf, PDF page 11. A photographed book: page curvature, glare and a pink colour cast are visible in the source.
Context only, and labelled as such. The story makes no Tivoli-to-castle claim. It replaces a 2026 crowd-sourced photograph with period Disney material from Disney's own master-planning volume, so the 'later Disney placemaking' slot is filled by a document the house holds.
What the house holds
The house holds nothing on the 1951 visit itself. What it holds is later consulting literature in which Tivoli is the reference case for a garden park that a city uses daily — which is the philosophy this story is about, arriving from the other direction. That distinction is stated rather than blurred.
“Tivoli achieves a 75 percent penetration of its local market. The park’s downtown location (it is heavily used for lunch and after work gathering by the downtown workforce) and reasonably priced season pass, no doubt stimulate strong repeat attendance”
QuotedTheme Park Potential in Sevilla, Andalucia · page 49 · UCF Harrison Price Papers · corpus buzzprice · no date in the record
The record carries no date for this document; its own attendance table is headed 1989/1990. No date is assigned here.
A Harrison Price Company study, not a Disney document, and decades later than the visit. It is evidence about Tivoli, not about Walt.

The record stores 1985-04-01 from a STARS cover page; the day is padding, so this is cited as April 1985.
CITED, NOT QUOTED. The sheet is a badly degraded scan; the sense of the passage is that the proposed Minneapolis centre would play a role in community life not unlike Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, using music and sound systems, night-lighting, colour and landscaping. That reading is not presented as the document’s wording. Note also that this is a Hennepin Avenue study for Minneapolis — Tivoli appears as a model for a client, not as a Disney record.
Tivoli in this corpus is almost always a comparable cited inside somebody else’s feasibility study. That is what the paper holds, and it is carried as that and not as a Disney document.
“In the Pavilion of Denmark, a miniature Tivoli Gardens playground for children created by eleven of Denmark's leading artists, is complete with slide, sandbox, playhouse, maze, pools, canals and a cafe.”

No point at Walt Disney World is pinned for this story. Where the record does not carry a descendant that can be stood in front of, none is invented.
The map is drawn by a mapping library loaded from another host. Every point it shows is printed above it as text, so with scripts off this page loses a picture of a map and nothing else.

Every public story stays tied to its evidence. Research links are kept here, and documents held locally are named with their page so a reader can ask for the sheet. Crowd-sourced encyclopedias are not a source in this ledger.
How to read the evidence
- Documented
- Strong primary or authoritative evidence supports the connection.
- Conflicting chronology
- Multiple credible accounts disagree on date or sequence.
- Open question
- The visit or object is real; the claimed influence still needs proof.
- Built, then abandoned
- Disney built it, and the future went another direction.
Quotations from scanned documents close line-end hyphens and render line breaks as spaces. Nothing else is altered. Passages that do not read cleanly are cited rather than quoted. The raw on-disk reading is printed beside every one of those quotations so the repair can be checked rather than trusted. A passage carried straight out of the corpus is printed exactly as it sits on disk and nothing is closed up: a word broken across a column stays broken.
The corpus read for these pages is F:\DEEPVAULT\_index\vault.sqlite (FTS5 table 'vault', 23,961 rows, read-only). quote_ok is true only where the reading is clean enough to put in front of a reader. No passage is ever tidied up, because a corrected quote is an invented one. A passage that is not quotable is still cited — document, date, page — and the reader is told the sheet is a scan.
